DAY-2: Fracking VS. Coal
Which one is worst fracking or coal? Fracking is the procedure of creating rock formations by injecting fluid into cracks to force them to open more. The larger the openings the more oil and gas flows out of them, where it can be extracted. What this basically means is that our water can become contaminated which can be very bad because, every living thing needs water to survive. And if we do not have a clean water supply we will no longer live. Coal is a hard black colored substance, made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and varying amounts of sulphur. Coal is a main factor of polluting our water supply. Coal contributes to the food we eat also, because the water we drink are given to the animals we eat. Therefor these animals are sick from drinking the water which can make us sick as well. In my opinion I would say that coal is worst. I say this because, some the facts that I discovered were very alarming for example,
-->
More than 450 mountains already been destroyed
by mountain top coal mining.” I found this shocking because this means, our
mountains 450 of them are being destroyed by coal mining. This has a big impact
on us because; it contains water, timber, wood and minerals that help us as
humans survive. Another alarming fact that I found is: “ over 10,000 coal miner
workers have died from black lung disease.” This means that a large amount of
coal miners are dead because of what they are breathing in, leading to there
cause of death which is black lung disease.
I found it alarming how: “since 1890, coal mining has also been a
political issue.” This means that coal mining is an issue that involves the
government, and politicians. Which means they face a hard issue: should they do
what’s best our what costs less money? A fact that took me by surprise is where
it says: “ 50% of U.S power source is coal.” I found this surprising because
this means that the U.S uses coal more than any other source. This power source
affects our world because it’s apart of the food we eat and what we are
breathing in. Yes, I do think coal is worst than fracking. I think this
because, coal is the process in which a hard black colored rock- like substance
is created, but made up of various toxins. And unlike fracking our planet uses
50% of it.
